Insights from a CIE/CIP alumna

Deloitte Australia: Conceptualising the Role of Quantum Computing in Banking
Andrew was a CIE/CIP student in Semester 1, 2019, and was invited to be a student mentor in Leadership for Innovation in Semester 2, 2019. He is now an Analyst at Deloitte Australia.
Andrew’s team were tasked with finding out, on behalf of Deloitte Australia, “how a large retail bank should prepare for the future availability of Quantum Computing (QC)”. Deloitte were so impressed by Andrew’s contributions over the course of CIE/CIP that they offered him a graduate position on the strength of his project work during the semester – long before the project outcomes had been finalised!
Andrew says that there was a “material level of luck” involved in being offered a position at Deloitte, which included “CIE giving us a good reason to work together, and good opportunity to get to know one another”. While we’re sure this is true, Andrew’s professional approach to the subject almost certainly helped: he dressed appropriately for every meeting and workshop, and always ensured he had “something to contribute”. His diligence and talent no doubt played a part in Deloitte being so eager to recruit Andrew as a graduate engineer.
